How is life planning different than financial planning?
Life Planning goes a step further than financial planning in that it really emphasizes the importance of defining your ideal life, which we call your Authentic Life. We then use your Authentic Life to guide financial decisions so that life becomes your real life as quickly as possible.
-
What does fee-only mean?
Fee-only means that the only way that Authentic Life Financial Planning is paid is through the fees paid by our clients. We do not receive any compensation from any commissions of insurance or investment products. This allows us to sit on the same side of the table as you and be your guide to making the best financial decisions for you regardless of how we are paid.
-
What is a fiduciary?
Authentic Life Financial Planning is Registered Investment Adviser and is a fiduciary. Being a fiduciary means that I am legally obligated to give advice that is in your best interest. It may surprise you that this is actually NOT a requirement to be a financial advisor in the U.S. However, I believe that taking on that additional responsibility is the right way to do business and allows me to give advice in a way that has the least amount of conflicts of interest. It also mean that I will disclose any conflicts of interest when they come up.
-
Why do you have an initial fee plus an ongoing fee?
The initial fee allows us to complete a one-time plan at a reduced cost to see if we're a good fit. Authentic Life Financial Planning is not the right financial planning firm for everyone. Before we agree to a long-term working relationship, we need to see if we're the right fit for each other. Having an initial fee and one-time plan allows us to make that determination together.
We also know that many tech and equity compensated professionals want to DIY their finances, but they also want to see if they’re on the right track. The Initial Financial Life Plan allows us to do an in depth review of your finances without requiring a long-term relationship.
-
Can you help with my 401(k) or other employer retirement accounts?
Yes! We are able to give advice on your accounts regardless of where they are held. This means that all of your accounts can be professionally managed and allocated to fund your Authentic Life.
-
Do I need to have a certain amount of assets to work with you?
No. Because we have a flat ongoing fee plus an AUM fee, you can work with us even if you're just starting out or only have accounts with your employer.
-
Do you file taxes?
No. While tax planning is a key component to what we do, we are not tax preparers. However, we do have relationships with tax preparers that we can connect you with if you are looking for someone to file your taxes as well.
-
Do you create estate plans?
No. Estate planning is incredibly important regardless of your age or wealth, but we are not attorneys. We have relationships with estate planning attorneys and can help with that process, but cannot create estate plans.
